That tells me he didn't think it all the way through.


Had a rough outline of things. Was able to write meat on the bones at first, but maybe backed himself into corners he hadn't thought through, and now is stuck.

Contrast that to Brandon Sanderson, who's worked the Stormlight series and outlined it, and as he preps to write the next one, has said he needed to rework some things based on how he moved elements of the overall story forward and backward in the overall scheme. He thinks through the impacts/consequences. GRRM and Rothfuss have not shown an ability to do this.

I think Robert Jordan did a decent job of outlining the entire thing, but that could've been as much Sanderson's talent in finishing the WoT series.
